Beningbrough Home Farm Blog
MY FIRST BLOG
Its nearly August bank holiday! we are baking for England
and stocking up, The weekend after is the Beningbrough Hall
Food & Craft festival (5th & 6th) Sept 11.00 to 5pm free
Admission , where last year we had a stall and wow it was
amazing our stall looked as you can imagine very "Homey Farmy"
brimming with our best sellers including the beef, we were
so busy , not prepared enough but all very exciting as we
really promoted our new shop gave out a voucher for a free
Pork Pie if they then called in the shop on their way home
when spending £10.00 or more!! We were sick of the sight of
the delicious Voakes Pies from Whixley!!
I am amazed at what a great summer we have had, lots of new
faces who have returned and definately busier than last
year, we have been nominated for the Flavours of Hambleton
awards, last year we reached the final three of newcomer of
the year. This year we have been nominated for "Specialist
retailer " and Outside caterer" . This is great news!
Our best sellers apart from our Aberdeen Angus beef is the
"Yorkshire Granola" from Buckden in Skipton this is flying
out of the shop! it is good as a snack, as a cereal with
milk or even on top of your Apple crumble! Yorkshire Blue
cheese from Shepherds purse at Thirsk is amazing , The
Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil a new healthier alternative to Olive
oil and our ready meals are also very popular especially for
the visitors leaving Beningbrough Hall and wanting something
for tea! I use the meat nearing its sell by date and just
make one batch a week (For now!) Sausage casserole, Chicken
Tikka Masala, Bolognaise, Chilli con Carne and Beef
Bourgignon. Which brings me to my latest addition the "Beningbrough
Beef Bourgignon Sausage" I asked my butcher to make some
from our beef, he now producers these huge bangers with my
own recipe, very popular, red winey, garlicy and more for
adults !!!
I never thought my life would have taken this path I have
always had clerical jobs before babies, i then qualified as
an interior designer , ran my bed and breakfast which I
still do along side the shop. The shop was always an
ongoing dream for the future, our farm in its beautiful
setting , the amazing Aberdeen Angus beef we produce , the
100,000+ people who pass then end of our lane each year all
were the deciding factors. We sold meat from the freezer
for a while with a little sign at the end of the lane so we
had already built up a following before the shop had
opened. Isaac my son (age 8) Also put his own little sign
alongside the "Beef" sign, his read "Please put old
nintendo games in this box... please !" He now makes his
own paper aeroplanes to sell in the shop at a huge
profit !!! he is learning young !! Maisie my daughter (age
10) is my little helper, she is so well informed about our
products and loves to help on the deli (With her hygenic
gloves on ! ) I am very proud of her .
Alistair is busy at the moment with straw leading and muck
leading waiting for a bit better weather for harvesting.
One of our Bulls "Yearsley Boy" is a good swimmer he likes
likes to visit the ladies on the other side of the river
this is a 20 mile round trip for us to collect him from Nun
Monkton !!
My Christmas stock is ordered and I have to start thinking
about Christmas trees, turkeys etc Its so wierd in
August!! Another little thing that pops up before Christmas
is Halloween, last year we had a spooky grotto and Pumpkin
carving , we have had to use that space now for other things
much to Beckys relief she said that she could have cut off
her finger and not known as she was so cold!!! So I,ll be
kind to my staff keep them warm in the shop and just sell
pumpkins and the things that go with Halloween So sorry no
carving!!!
Bye for now Lucy
